Detox seems so weird to Medical Doctors since, they say, the body does this every day in the Liver and the Kidneys. Odd that they seem not to realise that we can help the body along with foods and herbs to make detox smoother and more efficient isn’t it?
Any way – they are right that detox is natural and it is not just organs in our body such as the Liver and both of your kidneys that do Detox, it is every one of our cells.
To trigger our cells into the wonderfully efficient detox and regeneration processes that Nature has programmed into them requires a signal – a trigger.
And that signal to our cells to prepare for detox is a Calorie reduction to make the cells start to use up their current food molecules because the food supply has decreased. And then the regeneration and rebuilding of tissues and immune cells occurs when another signal occurs.
An that signal is when the food supply is back again.
It is the “Refeeding signal” that triggers a deep cycle of replacement and healing.
So that sounds good but how do we do it?
In Nature it happens whenever the food supply is interrupted and resumes. And is interrupted and resumes and is interrupted and resumes.
Our food supply is continuous – that is a good “First World Problem” to have but it stops us getting the benefits of the natural cycles of famine and feast mentioned above.
We have to mimic this and the longevity researchers like Professor Valter Longo and Krista Varady and medical journalist Michael Mosely call days of calorie restriction “Fasting mimicking diets.”
Valter Longo calls his Fasting mimicking diet the Longevity diet; Krista Varady calls her Fasting mimicking diet the Every Other Day diet and Michael Mosley calls his Fasting mimicking diet the 5:2 Diet.
All of these diets work. I am doing the 5:2 Diet but all of these diets work to upgrade your health lengthen your life and help you to lose weight in the process.
