If you are feeling blah and need a quick detox or cleanse which is simple to understand then a day or three doing a liquid cleanse may be just what the Doctor ordered.
Full scale detoxing needs preparation, herbs, detox supplements and so much effort that it may put you off, but a a juice cleanse for a measly day is a breeze, right?
This is almost correct because you may still need to do some shopping to make sure you have the fruits and veggies you will be using.
You have a whole day ahead of you and nothing to do. Cleansing is best done on days when you have little to no commitments and you can simply relax and juice.
First timers often go for lots of fruit juices which taste very sweet but is there is a caution about that kind of juicing which is that it may push your blood sugar too high. For those with hypoglycaemia or diabetes issues this is a very bad idea and different juices with less sugar and fewer fruits are the way forward.
Each person has to choose the cleanse that suits them and if in doubt check out a nutritionist or other health professional.
Lemon and water appeals to many and of course loads of people start their day like this. It is a very simple liquid cleanse and will give your digestion a rest and involves you in almost no work at all!
If you decide to focus on fruit almost any fruit juice will do. If you have an apple tree or other fruit freely available this is a great way to use your own fruit and all you need is a standard juicer.
Feel free to drink water in between the juices and pay no attention to how many glasses you drink. The often quoted 8 glasses a day is an urban myth and you will not get dehydrated if you don't drink loads of water!
This is my fave way to do a cleanse. Carrots in particular taste very sweet and are very nourishing so they are perfect for a cleanse.
Green Juices are the absolute best way to cleanse and you can easily make them taste scrumptious by using sweet fruit or vegetables along with the greens.
It can be as easy as picking 2 green leaves and then washing them and fold them into small enough bundles to get into the juicer then following that with 3 washed and trimmed carrots.
You can use collard greens, broccoli, Kale – any and all greens will do so keep a look out for any greens going cheap at local markets and use them in your cleanse.
Celery is good for many juices since it gives a lot of juice and has a lot of minerals.
In green juices the "green" taste is balanced by a sweet fruit like apples or a sweet vegetable such as beets or carrots. You can make your own recipes or get a juice recipe book to give you some great ideas.
I like to put a little root ginger in my juices to give them a little zing.
Is this too much fun to be a real cleanse – what do you think? If you have any recipes of your own for a liquid cleanse please share them in the comment section, thanks!
